It all began in 1895. Franz Falke-Rohen, a roofer in summer and a knitter in winter, decided to set up his own knitting factory.
His craftsmanship became the foundation of an extraordinary family adventure.

In 1902, his son Franz junior took over the reins. Despite the hardships of the First World War, he kept the business going. The small company gains in strength.

Then came 1918. Father and son bought a woolen mill, the future FALKE Garne. It was the first step towards a visionary textile group.

In the early 1920s, a new factory was built in Schmallenberg. Telephone, modern sock machines : FALKE entered the industrial age. The head office is still located here today.

By 1928, the company had almost 800 employees. The craft had evolved into a flourishing industry.

The rise of a visionary brand

The birth of FALKE Fashion

In 1939, FALKE bought the Salomon Stern knitwear factory, renaming it FALKE Fashion. A few years later, in 1946, the FALKE brand was officially created. The logo quickly became a signature of quality.

The third generation takes the reins

The family succession continues. In 1951, the third generation took over the management. Brothers Paul and Franz-Otto set their sights higher: consistent market policy, opening up to exports, expansion in Europe and beyond.

A rapidly diversifying market

In 1958, FALKE entered the fine hosiery market. Nylon and tights complement the socks. Then, in the 60s and 70s, the brand ventured into women’s knitwear.

Internationalization and recognition

In the 1970s, FALKE went international. New sites were opened in Portugal, Austria, Hungary and South Africa. Marketing innovation followed, rewarded by the prestigious Deutscher Marketingpreis in 1976.
